Our Story

Our Story

Two lives. One shared adventure.

We are Adam and Chris—husbands, travellers and the team behind Priscilla, Queen of the Canal. This is the story of how years of shared adventures became a deliberate plan to choose a different kind of life.

How it began

From countryside escapes to a life imagined on the water.

We first met when Adam was 19 and became a couple four years later. We married in 2016, by which time travel, the outdoors and weekends spent escaping everyday routine had already become an important part of our life together.

Our early adventures included camping holidays, countryside breaks and a growing number of narrowboat trips. Holidays aboard Tilly Mint, owned by our dear friends Neil and Naomi, gave us the chance to experience the waterways at their own pace—and planted the seed of one day having a boat of our own.

During a staycation aboard Tilly Mint in 2020, as the world began to emerge from the COVID-19 lockdowns, the dream became a decision: we would work towards retiring early, build an all-electric narrowboat designed around the way we want to live, and explore the waterways of the UK and Europe.

This is what choosing your life looks like.

Priscilla is more than a boat. She represents the freedom to live more intentionally, travel slowly and make room for the places, people and stories found along the way.

Where we are now

The journey starts long before launch.

We are documenting every chapter: our earlier holidays and adventures, the research and design decisions behind Priscilla, the boat build itself and, ultimately, life and travel aboard her. We want to share the honest process—not only the finished dream—and celebrate the history, nature and communities connected by the waterways.
